JULIE LYFORD FOR LYNE
About Julie Lyford
Julie Lyford OAM is a strong, dedicated and experienced
advocate for rural and regional communities.
As a former registered nurse, local councillor and mayor, Julie is committed to the core values that build progressive and resilient societies.
Her priorities are sustainable, liveable communities with fair, transparent and trustworthy political processes.
Julie has extensive board and decision-making experience with Hunter Councils, Regional Development Australia (Hunter), Mid Coast Water, Upper Hunter Arts, tourism and economic development committees. This is testament to her commitment to the welfare of people and their sense of place.
As a young mother concerned about climate change, Julie co-founded the Gloucester Environment Group in 1990. This was the first of many community roles that led to her position as chair of Groundswell Gloucester; a volunteer team focused on protecting the Gloucester and Manning Valley from coal and coal seam gas extraction.
Julie is working on transitioning communities to become strong and inclusive, with viable economic and business opportunities for a renewable and sustainable future.
Convinced that community wisdom and expertise can effect corporate and political change at all levels, Julie is committed to encouraging those seeking involvement in public office and community organisations.
Julie has dedicated many years to community development due to a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation. As an 18 year old, Julie migrated to Australia and, as a long-term refugee advocate, is always conscious of the fortunate life she and her family are able to live.
